CABOOSE # CN 76606:

Train Station Inn  • 21 Station Rd, Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Canada, B0K 1V0

This is the only caboose on the property that was originally built as a caboose from scratch. The other
cabooses were all built as boxcars before being converted into cabooses.  It was built in December
1978 and designed to be used in the rail yard around the cities. Its light weight made it easy to handle
in these situations. The bay windows on the sides replace the cupola. All main line cabooses have a
cupola on top. 210 were built but less then 8 survive today. It was last used in Toronto and was sold
to the Train Station Inn in April of 1997. On its way here by rail it was lost and had to be retrieved by
the Railway Police on 2 occasions. Apparently some railway staff did not want to give it up so they kept
hiding it. It finally arrived in Tatamagouche in November, 1997.
